What to expect when you visit Pioneer United Methodist Church
Since visiting any church for the first time can be a little intimidating, we've put together some FAQs. Brouse around our site for further infomation and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments.
FAQs
Will we embarrass you? Not at All. You don't have to stand up and introduce yourself. We will say hello when you arrive and during the time when greet each other.
Do you need to dress up? Remember God accepts us as we are, no matter who we are or how we dress. Pioneer's worshipers dress in what is comfortable to each individual. Attendees typically wear anything from jeans and tee shirts to suits and ties. Just wear whatever you think is approiate for you.
What about Children? Children of all ages are always welcome at any time. Children and youth come to worship at 10:00 am and stay for about 20 minutes. During the first part of the service the children are invited foward to hear a special messiage and then have the option of leaving to go to our Godly Play Sunday school. We have a nursery for babies and young children up to three years old that is open throughout the service and staffed by our wonderful volunteers.
What about the offering? An offering will be taken during our service. This offering is an opportunity for our members to support their church and its ministries. We certainly do not expect or require visitors to put anything in the offering plate.
What if I want to share a joy or a concern? Just fill out the insert included with the bulletin.
What if I want more information? You can fill out the information sheet included with the bulletin and the ushers will collect these sheets so we will be able to contact you.
Will I be able to follow along with the service? Yes, everything you will need is in the bulletin that you will be given when you enter. Hymnals are found in every pew and you can follow along the service on our screen. Music selections and congregational responses are projected on the screen in a large format, so it is easy to follow along, and our worship leaders will tell you when to stand or sit. The hymn numbers are also projected so if you perfer to have music in your hands, then you can also follow along in the hymnals, although most folk do not.
Are hearing assisted devices available? Yes, just ask one of the ushers.
Can I take Communion, and how does it work?
Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month. At Holy Communion, all who love the Lord are welcome to come forward to receive the elements, you do not have to be a member of this church to do so. All are welcome! Our 'wine' is not alcoholic, and we also have the option of a gluten-free bread and cup.
If you wish to take communion but are unable to walk to the front of the church, just notify the usher, and the pastor will bring the bread and wine to you in the pew.
What about after the service? After the worship service, you are invited to join the congregation in the Fellowship Hall for refreshments and conversation.
